Yamana Gold Inc.
Yamana Gold heads south to seek its fortune. The Canada-based gold producer holds production, exploration, and development assets in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Its mines contain about 19 million ounces of proved and probable gold equivalent (which contains silver) and produce more than 1 million ounces gold equivalent ounces (GEO) annually. It also mines for copper and silver. The company's two largest mines are El Peñón in Chile and Gualcamayo in Argentina. To expand its Argentine operations, Yamana acquired another Canadian miner, Extorre Gold, for $403 million in a cash-and-stock deal in 2012. The buy includes the Cerro Moro gold and silver deposit within the province of Santa Cruz.
