Wi-LAN hopes that its wireless technology patents translate into a license to print money. Previously a manufacturer of wireless equipment, the company has shifted its efforts to primarily focus on licensing its technology to equipment manufacturers. Wi-LAN has licensed its 790-plus patents to more than 200 clients who incorporate it into wireless, wireline, and V-Chip (used to filter out inappropriate television programming) technology. Clients have included Cisco, Nokia, Panasonic, and Samsung.
