Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust develops and manages shopping centers and other real estate properties. The REIT owns eight properties, including five shopping centers, two stand-alone buildings, and one office building. Most are in Virginia, but the company plans to target the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Southwest. It will develop and manage strip centers and free-standing retail properties with a specific focus on revamping properties in secondary and tertiary markets. Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust will be managed by WHLR Management, a company owned by company founder, chairman, and president Jon Wheeler. The REIT was formed in early 2011 and filed to go public later that year.
