Universal American provides unified coverage for the silver-haired set. The holding company owns several insurance firms aimed at serving US senior citizens. It covers about 114,000 Medicare Advantage members with such products as HMO, PPO, and private fee-for-service plans; its Medicaid segment operates the Total Care Medicaid health plan. Other subsidiaries market disability and hospitalization insurance and related products to self-employed individuals in the US. The company is licensed to operate throughout the US and the District of Columbia.  WellCare Health Plans is buying Universal American for $600 million.
