Synthesis Energy Systems (SES) prefers it when a little waste is produced posthaste. The company owns a coal gasification plant in China that began production in 2008. (Coal gasification converts low-rank coal and coal waste into fuels such as synthetic natural gas, methanol, ammonia, and dimethyl ether, which are used to make gasoline). SES leases the technology behind the plant from the Gas Technology Institute. The company has four more coal gasification plants under development -- two in China with AEI, and two in the US with North American Coal Corporation and CONSOL Energy.
