No laggard, oil and gas exploration and production company Swift Energy was swift to see the potential of a handful of oil and gas fields in Louisiana and Texas. The company's core exploration areas are the South Bearhead Creek Field and Burr Ferry Field in Louisiana and the  Eagle Ford Play in Texas. Swift Energy aims to increase reserves and production by adjusting the balance between drilling and acquisition activities in response to market conditions. Facing a slumping oil market, in late 2015 the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, from which it emerged in April, 2016. That year, it sold its Lake Washington field in Louisiana for $40 million.
