Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI) can cool even the most heated conversation. The company uses high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology in its line of communications products, which combine low-noise amplifiers and filters, are designed to improve the quality of radio-frequency (RF) transmissions between cellular base stations and mobile devices in wireless networks. It also makes cryogenic cooling devices used to cool HTS materials. STI relies on government contracts to fund its R&D operations; on the commercial side the company serves such top wireless network operators as AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile.
