Shaw Communications puts on a show across Canada. The media company provides cable television in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Shaw has about 2.3 million basic cable subscribers, nearly 2 million Internet customers, and 1.2 million digital telephone users. Its Media division owns the Global Television network which broadcasts HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada, and History Television across Canada. Shaw Direct provides direct-to-home satellite programming to more than 900,000 subscribers. Its Satellite Services unit redistribution broadcast signals and provides wireless vehicle fleet management. Chairman J. R. Shaw and his family control the company.
