One of Europe's largest independent waste disposal enterprises, the company has a full range of waste management operations, including waste collection, transfer, and treatment; incineration; remediation services; hazardous chemicals treatment; and recycling. The company has operating sites in Benelux, the UK, and Canada. Working in partnership with local authorities throughout the UK, Shanks has more than 40 municipal waste management contracts. It has similar contracts in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2016 the company agreed to merge with the Netherlands-based Van Gansewinkel Waste Group.
