Sears Canada is proof that American institutions aren't limited to the US. One of the biggest Canadian department store chains, it operates about 175 stores that sell home fashions, appliances, and apparel. In addition to supplying about 235 independently-owned stores with appliances, home electronics, and garden goods, Sears Canada runs nearly 50 furniture and appliances stores, a dozen outlet stores, and the largest catalog business in Canada. It also sells merchandise online. The company's services include home repair, floor covering, and travel agencies (about 100 offices). US-based Sears Holdings, formed by the merger of Sears and Kmart, has reduced its stake in Sears Canada to just 12% from 95% in 2012.
