Rosetta Genomics Ltd.
Rosetta Genomics is dedicated to unlocking the secrets of microRNAs. Building on the work of the Human Genome Project, Rosetta Genomics has focused its efforts on the sections of DNA originally labeled "junk" because they served no identifiable function. The company's research suggests that parts of this "junk" DNA regulate protein production (and thus the onset and progression of disease) through genes that encode molecules known as microRNAs. Founded in 2000, Rosetta Genomics has commercialized a number of cancer diagnostics based on its microRNA research, and is developing additional tests. However, it reduced its workforce substantially in 2010 and 2011 to cut R&D expenses and focus on commercialization efforts.
