Riverbed Technology keeps data flowing. The company develops hardware and software that improves the performance of software shared over wide area networks (WANs) and reduces network traffic. Its Steelhead network appliances and software tools are designed for small businesses and global enterprises. Riverbed's other products enable mobile access to business software and data, facilitate online data storage (Whitewater), and manage network performance (Cascade). Customers have included Carhartt, OMV, and Tatts Group. The company makes most of its sales through resellers, distributors, and systems integrators. Riverbed sells worldwide, but it does more than half of its business in the US. In mid-2015 Riverbed was acquired for $3.6 billion by Thoma Bravo and Teachers' Private Capital.
