Research Frontiers Incorporated
Research Frontiers is exploring smart light frontiers. The company's suspended-particle device (SPD) technology controls the flow of light. When microscopic particles in a liquid suspension or film are electrically excited, they align. By varying voltage, the amount of light transmitted can be controlled. Applications include "smart windows" that control light transmission, eyewear, auto sunroofs and mirrors, and flat-panel displays for computers and other electronic devices. Research Frontiers licenses its technologies to such manufacturers as Asahi Glass, Dainippon Ink and Chemicals, General Electric, Hitachi Chemical, and Polaroid.
