Homeowners and businesses across the US and in Puerto Rico pledge allegiance to Republic Services and the trash collection for which it stands. The company is the second-largest nonhazardous waste management provider in the US, behind leader Waste Management, in terms of revenues and geographic coverage. Republic provides waste disposal services for commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers through its network of 340 collection firms. It owns or operates 193 solid waste landfills, 201 transfer stations, and 67 recycling centers, 8 treatment, recovery and disposal facilities, and 12 salt water disposal wells. It also has 69 landfill-to-gas and a handful of other renewable energy projects.
