Reading International is all about the show, not the book. The company owns about 60 movie theaters in Australia, New Zealand, and the US. Cinemas operate under brands such as Reading and Rialto. Its Angelika Film Center & Café in New York (50%) and Dallas show art house films. Reading also has real estate operations that develop and rent entertainment, commercial, retail space. Holdings include three live theaters in New York (the Union Square, Orpheum, and Minetta Lane) and one in Chicago (the Royal George), as well as the Australia Newmarket shopping center. Chairman and CEO James Cotter owns about 70% of the voting stock of the firm, which is descended from Reading Railroad of Monopoly fame.
