iPod people have a place to store their tunes, whereas PODS people have a place to store their stuff. The folks at PODS Enterprises will deliver a steel-frame container to your home or workplace so you can pack it, then store the container onsite, at a warehouse, or arrange for it to be delivered to a new location. The company uses the patented Podzilla-brand hydraulic lift system, created to minimize the shifting of contents within containers. PODS -- an acronym for Portable On-Demand Storage -- operates via 16 company-owned sites and 150 franchises in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. Some 140,000 storage containers are in use. Atlanta investment firm Arcapita owns the company, which was founded in 1998.
