Otelco makes sure rural areas enjoy all the modern communications conveniences. The company operates six incumbent rural local-exchange carriers (RLECs) that provide local and long-distance phone services. Other services include high-speed and dial-up Internet access, as well as cable television. Otelco has four RLECs in north central Alabama, one in central Missouri, and one adjacent to Bangor, Maine. It maintains more than 69,000 access lines, and has more than 4,000 cable-TV customers. Otelco has made a business of acquiring RLECs, including assets from Oneonta Telephone that were used to create Otelco Telephone in 1999.
