On Track Innovations (OTI) makes microprocessor-based smart cards used in contactless electronic card systems. The company also provides card readers and related software. Contactless cards are different from other data cards, such as credit cards, in that it is not necessary to "swipe" them. Instead, contactless smart cards need only be brought within range of an antenna connected to the card-reading device. OTI's products are used for such applications as service station fuel payment systems, electronic personal identification, mass transit ticketing, and university and corporate campus security. In 2009 the company sold the assets of its Millennium Card's Technology subsidiary to SMARTRAC.
