If it has to do with chemicals, Nippon Kayaku wants in on it. The company is divided into three primary business lines: functional chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and automotive safety parts (airbag and seat belt components). It also makes pesticides and herbicides. Its largest segment, functional chemicals, makes epoxy resins used in semiconductors, sealants for LCD panels, and industrial dyes. Its pharmaceuticals division makes about 30 types of anti-cancer drugs. Nippon Kayaku has offices, manufacturing plants, and labs across Japan, as well as in China, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, The Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US. It was formed in 1916 as Japan's first industrial explosives company.
