The New York-based company insures nearly 20,000 doctors as well as dentists, midwives, and other medical professionals and medical facilities in New York, New Jersey, and surrounding areas. Other offerings include legal services, group billing for physicians' groups, and free information sessions for medical and dental residents nearing the end of their professional training. MLMIC was established in 1975 and is owned by its policyholders. However, the firm plans to switch from a mutual company to a stock company, after which it will be acquired by subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
