A self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT), Life Storage (formerly Sovran Self Storage) operates some 650 facilities with more than 45 million sq. ft. of storage space. Its properties usually offer features such as humidity-controlled spaces; outdoor storage for cars, boats, and RVs; and the use of a free truck to help clients haul their stuff. Serving both individual and business customers, the company owns properties in about 30 states. In mid-2016 it effected its corporate name change and began transitioning the name of its facilities from Uncle Bob's Self Storage to Life Storage.
