iBasis has laid a foundation for digital phone service. The company, a subsidiary of Dutch telecommunications service provider KPN, primarily sells wholesale access to its international VoIP (voice-over-Internet protocol) network to more than 1,000 other voice and data service carriers and resellers in about 100 countries. Its long distance services are enabled through agreements with regional providers worldwide who handle termination of calls. While its core segment is wholesale VoIP access, the company also offers mobile data services such as hosted roaming and global mobile signaling and sells retail prepaid services through some 240 calling card brands and online.
