Founded in 1670 as a fur trading enterprise, Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) is a Canadian retail conglomerate that owns department stores north and south of the US-Canada border. At home it operates Hudson's Bay, Canada's largest national branded department stores with 90 locations. It also has about 70 kitchen, bed and bath superstores under the Home Outfitters banner in Canada. In the US, HBC owns and operates the upscale Saks and Lord & Taylor department store chains. HBC also has its own credit card and financial services companies. After going public in 2012, HBC acquired US luxury retailer Saks in 2013 for $2.9 billion in its first purchase as a public company.
