A cell phone call could travel completely over Huawei Technologies products, except for the air between cell towers. The Chinese tech giant competes with Ericsson, Cisco Systems, and Nokia in making telecommunications and network infrastructure and with Samsung and Apple in making smartphones. It also makes equipment for corporate IT systems and cloud computing. The company has been a well-known presence n China, but it has aggressively expanded to other markets in recent years. Telecom carriers such as Telefonica, Vodafone, and Telstra are Huawei’s biggest customer set, but its consumer unit is growing fast (it sold 108 million smartphones in 2015, third in the world). Founded in 1987, the company is owned by its 170,000 employees.
