Hc2 Holdings, Inc.
Consolidation in the US telecom industry has left HC2 Holdings looking for a new business opportunity. The former Primus Telecommunications sold its legacy telecom business operations in the US and Canada to York Capital Management for $129 million in 2013. It also sold its Canadian data center business, Blackiron Data, to Rogers Communications for $200 million. HC2 Holdings kept its PTGi International Carrier Services business, which provides network access to other telecommunications carriers on a wholesale basis. In 2014 it made its first foray outside the telecom industry when it bought a 60% stake in steel construction company Schuff for $79 million.
