No hand-me-down operation, Hanmi Financial is headquartered in a penthouse suite along Los Angeles' Wilshire Boulevard. The company owns Hanmi Bank, which serves California's Korean-American communities in the Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco Bay, and Silicon Valley areas. Hanmi Bank offers retail and small business banking, with an emphasis on the latter, from more than 25 California branches and loan offices throughout the US. Commercial and industrial loans, including SBA and international trade finance loans, account for about 60% of its loan portfolio; real estate loans make up most of the rest. Hanmi and Korean bank Woori Finance called off plans to merge in mid-2011.
