Through its subsidiaries, holding company Gulf Island Fabrication makes islands in the stream -- the Gulf Stream, that is. Its subsidiaries make offshore drilling and production platforms for use mainly in the Gulf of Mexico. Products include jackets and deck sections of fixed production platforms, hull and deck sections of floating production platforms, piles, subsea templates, wellhead protectors, and various production, compressor, and utility modules. Gulf Island also produces and repairs pressure vessels and refurbishes existing platforms. At the end of 2010 it had a backlog of 23 projects with 12 customers.
