Gold gets top billing at Golden Star Resources. The company's producing assets -- the Bogoso and Wassa properties -- are in Ghana, in West Africa's Ashanti gold belt. (The Ghanaian government owns 10% of each of those properties.) In 2012 the company had proved and probable reserves of about 4.3 million ounces of gold and produced about 331,200 ounces annually. Golden Star has open-pit gold mines and processing operations at two sites, Bogoso/Prestea and Wassa/HBB, and it processes both non-refractory and refractory ores. The company explores other mineral properties in Ghana and other parts of West Africa, including Côte d'Ivoire and Niger, as well as in South America.
