Energy Future Holdings has seen the future and it works -- with electricity. It operates the largest nonregulated retail electric provider in Texas (TXU Energy) with more than 1.7 million customers, and its Luminant unit has a generating capacity of more than 13,700 MW in the state. Energy Future Holdings has regulated power transmission and distribution operations through 80%-owned Oncor Electric Delivery, which operates the largest regulated distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to more than 3.2 million electric delivery points over 120,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2014 and expected to exit bankruptcy in 2016.
