Energy and Canada go together for Encana (derived from Energy, Canada) but it likes the US, too. The oil and gas company has proved reserves of 16.4 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent and holds 7.9 million net acres of land in Canada and the US. Its prolific gas plays include the Bighorn Deep Basin in western Alberta, the Piceance Basin in Colorado, the Jonah play in Wyoming, and the Haynesville Shale play in Texas. One of the largest natural gas producers in North America, the company's other operations include the transportation and marketing of its natural gas and liquids production. In 2014 the company announced plans to spin off its Western Canadian royalty oil and gas business.
