Emerge Energy Services is ready to come into being. The company formed in April 2012 by an investment firm, Insight Equity, to take over three of its portfolio investments -- Allied Energy Company LLC; Direct Fuels Partners, L.P.; and Superior Silica Sands LLC. Allied Energy and Direct Fuels distribute petroleum products, including ethanol and biodiesel, while Superior Silica Sands owns three processing plants that supply sand to natural gas production companies. (Sand is one of the key components in hydraulic fracturing, the process in producing natural gas.) When Emerge Energy Services went public in March 2013, it took ownership of the three companies.
