Edw. C. Levy Co.
When you say "slag off," Edw. C. Levy doesn't take offense, it gets to work. Operating as the Levy Group of Companies or Levy Company, the firm processes slag, an impurity that forms on the surface of molten metal from blast and steel furnaces. Each year the company processes more than 10 million tons of slag, which is made into aggregates for the construction industry. Levy Company boasts slag operations in about two dozen steel mills, located mostly in the Midwest but also in Australia and Thailand. As part of its business, the company also has asphalt, cement, and concrete products. Founded in 1918, the Levy Group is still controlled by the Levy family.
