Holding company Doosan Corporation maintains many different irons in even more fires, but it is fanning the fires of its core competencies in electronics manufacturing and heavy construction. The company owns significant stakes in more than 100 companies, primarily Asian businesses, with operations in manufacturing, real estate, distribution, and financing. Subsidiary Doosan Infracore, acquired in 2005 from Daewoo, is one of Korea's largest construction equipment manufacturers. Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction builds power plants, desalination plants, and engages in various civil and construction activities. Doosan was founded in 1933 as beer-maker Sohwa-Kirin Beer.
