Constellium is no tin can operation. The company (borne out of Rio Tinto Alcan's Engineered Products division) makes specialty rolled and extruded aluminum products, from tin cans for food to the metal frames for automobiles and airplanes. Constellium’s proprietary materials include Surfalex, an alloy developed for auto bodies, and AIRWARE, a lightweight, specialty aluminum-lithium alloy for aerospace applications. While headquartered in the Netherlands for tax purposes, Constellium has more than 25 manufacturing plants in China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, and the US. Most of its business is in Europe. The company went public in the US in 2013.
