Comstock Resources' stock in trade is exploring for and producing natural gas and oil. In 2012 the midsized independent oil and gas company reported proved reserves of 711.9 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent (67% natural gas, 33% oil) on its properties primarily located in three major areas -- East Texas/North Louisiana, South Texas, and West Texas. Comstock Resources operates more than 960 of the 1,640 producing wells in which it holds an interest. The company has grown through the drill bit (by exploiting existing reserves) and through complementary acquisitions.
