Cherry Hill Mortgage Investment is interested in real estate assets that lie far beyond Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Formed in 2012, Cherry Hill is a real estate investment trust, or REIT, that looks to acquire, invest in, and manage real estate assets across the US. It plans to build a portfolio that comprises excess mortgage servicing rights (excess MSRs are servicing fees that exceed basic MSR servicing fees), agency residential mortgage-backed securities (secured by the government agencies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac), and other residential mortgage assets. The REIT is externally managed by Cherry Hill Mortgage Management, an affiliate of Freedom Mortgage. It went public in 2013.
