Centrus Energy Corp.
Centrus Energy (formerly USEC) beats radioactive swords into enriched uranium plowshares. The company processes used uranium -- about half of which comes from old Russian atomic warheads -- into enriched uranium, which it then supplies for commercial nuclear power plants. Centrus Energy is the radioactive recycler of choice for the "Megatons-to-Megawatts" program, a US-Russian agreement to convert uranium from warheads into nuclear fuel. In addition, Centrus Energy develops low-enriched uranium for the nuclear materials industry and also processes uranium for the US Department of Energy. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2014 and emerged later the same year.
