Cedar Realty Trust (formerly Cedar Shopping Centers) has tended its portfolio from a sapling to a full-grown evergreen. The self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT) owns, develops, and manages retail space, mainly supermarket-anchored strip centers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic region. It owns about 65 properties totaling nearly 10 million sq. ft. of leasable space. Its portfolio spans seven states, with the heaviest concentration of shopping centers in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Major tenants include Giant Foods, LA Fitness, and Farm Fresh. The REIT usually redevelops or expands existing properties after it buys them.
