Carver Bancorp, Inc.
Carver Bancorp, one of the largest minority-led financial institutions in the US, is the holding company for Carver Federal Savings Bank. The bank was founded in 1948 to provide community banking services to New York City's African-American and Caribbean-American population. From about 10 branches in mostly low- to moderate-income neighborhoods in Harlem, Brooklyn, and Queens, the thrift offers deposit accounts, insurance, and investment products. Carver Federal's lending activities are focused on housing (residential mortgages and multifamily real estate loans) and non-residential real estate (churches and commercial properties.) The latter makes up about 40% of Carver's loan portfolio.
