Ares Management could be called the god of investment warfare. The firm's investment activity is split into four platforms: private equity; direct lending, tradable credit, and real estate. Subsidiary Ares Capital (which represents the private debt platform) specializes in senior debt loans, mezzanine debt, and noncontrol equity. Ares Management invests in a variety of industries with deals typically ranging between $25 million and $75 million. Portfolio companies include Neiman Marcus,  99 Cents Only Stores, Simmons Bedding, and Smart & Final Stores. The firm has nearly $75 billion of committed capital under management. Ares Management went public in 2014 with an offering worth $216 million.
