Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Inc.
Under-the-weather coal miners (and their daughters) can turn to Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) for medical services. The not-for-profit health system serves residents of eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia through 10 hospitals with more than 1,000 beds, as well as dozens of clinics, home health care agencies, HomeCare Stores, and retail pharmacies. Its largest hospital in Hazard, Kentucky, has 310 beds and features an inpatient psychiatric unit that serves as the state mental health facility. Several of the system's hospitals are Critical Access Hospitals, a federal government designation for rural community hospitals that operate in medically underserved areas.
