American Assets Trust is a self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns, develops, and operates upscale retail, office, and residential property mostly in Northern and Southern California, but also in Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Hawaii. Its 6 million square foot portfolio includes around 10 shopping centers, more than handful of office buildings, a 369-room hotel and retail complex, and five multi-family residential properties. Its tenants include SalesForce, Autodesk, the Veterans Benefits Administration, and well-known retailers such as Kmart, Lowe's, Sports Authority, Old Navy, and Vons. Formed in 1967 as American Assets, the firm went public in 2011.
