Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.
Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (APUC) has about as many energy and water facilities as the Algonquin Nation once had tribes. It occupies nearly the same area too. With about 45 hydroelectric plants, 20 water and wastewater companies, five natural gas-powered generation plants, and a handful of biomass and other renewable energy facilities, the company serves customers across Canada and the US (with concentrations in Quebec and New England). Its renewable and thermal plants have a combined 500 MW capacity, and its water and electricity units distribute to about 215,000 customers. In early 2017 the company bought Empire District Electric in a $2.3 billion deal.
