8point3 Energy Partners was formed by First Solar and SunPower to own, operate, and buy solar energy generation projects. Its primary objective is to generate cash distributions that grow at a sustainable rate by acquiring premium solar assets primarily developed by First Solar and SunPower that serve utility, commercial, industrial, and residential customers in the US and in other markets within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). 8point3 Energy Partners' initial portfolio includes stakes in 432 MW of solar energy projects. The partnership went public in 2015.
